Nagy Gedo goal Egypt 1 0 Ghana Africa Cup of Nations final Highlights A very late goal from super-sub Nagy Gedo gave Egypt their hands on the Africa Cup of Nations tonight in a tight battle with ghana.Six-times winners Egypt is now extended to a record third title in a row, extending their record to seven wins

Tournament top scorer and super sub par excellence Mohamed Nagy “Geddo” was the hero once again as he came off the bench to grab his fifth goal of the competition and secure a 1-0 win for defending champions Egypt against a hard-working but uninspired Ghana side.

Ghana enjoyed their best spell of the game early in the second half, playing much more positively than at any time in the first period, and as a result the game began to open up a bit with the forwards finding more space in which to work at both ends of the field. Egypt’s passing began to bear fruit and they started to create openings in the Ghana defence. Hassan claimed a penalty for a push in the back, but the referee waved play on and Ghana continued to favour shooting from outside the box

Chances were few and far between for both sides but, as players tired in the heat, the game opened up and until Egypt’s moment of magic it looked like Ghana might sneak victory

His late strike was the one moment of class that lit up an otherwise uneventful final

Togo Ban for next two Africa Cups is a disgrace

January 31, 2010

CAF logo1 Togo Ban for next two Africa Cups is a disgrace Togo have been banned from the next two Africa Nations Cups after their withdrawal from this year’s competition in the wake of two members of their delegation being killed in an ambush, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) said this weekend. What makes it even worse (CAF) slapped a $50,000 fine on the team also.

Two members of their delegation were killed in the ambush, which occurred on 8 February, two days before the start of the tournament.

The Togo government is furious over the decision, threatening legal action.

“This is a surprise decision and it means that people (Caf) have no consideration for the lives of other human beings,” Togo Interior Minister Pascal Bodjona told BBC Sport.

“This is insulting to the family of those who lost their lives and those traumatised because of the attack.

“We had two people dead and others suffered so if those people at Caf had any consideration for others I don’t think at this time this is a reasonable decision.

“We are awaiting the official notification and we are going to take legal action to resolve the matter.”

World football governing body Fifa declined to comment on the ban.Issa Hayatou, the head of CAF, entertains the notion that he could succeed Sepp Blatter as president of FIFA, lets hope not!
