Are there any good bets in the group stage of the Champions league for 2017
The Champions League group stages are only days away and punters are trying to find some value bets. In this article we’ll try to help them.
With Euro 2016 well and truly over and the preseason gone, the real football has started on the European continent. The English Premier League, the La Liga, Serie A, the Bundesliga and Ligue 1 have all hit the ground running.
However, football fans won’t be really and truly satisfied until Europe’s top competition – the Champions League kicks into gear and the group matches start. Betting enthusiasts find themselves in a similar situation when they are reading the a fun casino review and simply can’t wait to start playing there.
There are many enticing matches scheduled for the group stages, but not all of them are easy to predict. In this article we will try to help punters and provide them with some value bets on two matches from the first round of the group stages
Man. City – Mönchengladbach
Pep Guardiola’s team is once again in one of the most difficult groups in this year’s CL. They are in Group C with some of Europe’s most illustrious teams.
The match up with Barcelona will certainly be an enticing one for football fans as they will be able to see Pep face his former team where he reached stratospheric heights both as a player and as a manager.
However, before that match starts, Pep’s Citizens will have to face the tough German outfit. They played them last year and in just two games the two teams managed to score 9 goals in total.
We feel that the same thing might happen again this year and that the game might be one of the highest scoring games in the first round of the group stages. Here are some reasons why we think that this game can easily go over 3.5 Goals.
- Manchester City will be mentally and physically exhausted because of the Manchester derby happening three days prior.
- This means that their defence won’t be as focused as it usually is.
- Mönchengladbach is one of the highest scoring teams in the Bundesliga.
- But it has young and inexperienced defenders.
- The amazing striking force that City posses can be terrifying to any opposition team.
Club Brugge – Leicester City
The second match which we are going to review in this article is a battle of champions in which the champions of Belgium will host the English title winners.
Leicester City surprised the whole football world last year when they left clubs such as Manchester United, Chelsea, Manchester City, Tottenham and Liverpool behind them and won the English Premier League. They did this because their coach, Claudio Ranieri, taught them how important it was to:
- defend as a team;
- play with quick counter attacks;
- use their goal scoring chances effectively;
- never underestimate their football ability.
These are all traits of a team which doesn’t play the best and most appealing football, but still manages to grind out the desired result and the 3 points at the end of the day.
This is why we are inclined to think that Leicester are going to win their first Champions League match in their history. We don’t expect a high scoring thriller of a game, because neither the Foxes nor Club Brugge are that kind of teams.
What we do expect though, is a physical game, in which Leicester are going to come on top in a hard fought, but well deserved 1:0 victory. If you are not brave enough to predict the correct score then you can just go with the away win.
