Arsenal 0 – 0 Fulham Highlights

February 28, 2009 | Filed Under: UK Box Update

Arsenal were left to rue missed chances after a fourth successive goalless draw in the Premier League.

Andy Johnson shot just wide after brilliantly turning Kolo Toure but Robin van Persie twice failed to beat Mark Schwarzer from good positions.

The Dutchman’s header from Bacary Sagna’s cross early in the second half clipped a post and Schwarzer later denied Abou Diaby and Andrey Arshavin

Arsenal are currently just two points clear of sixth-placed Everton and could be forced to confront the doomsday scenario of failing to qualify even for the much-maligned Europa League unless they rediscover their attacking pep.

They were alarmingly shot-shy against a well-organised Fulham, with Mark Schwarzer only rarely troubled. The Australian saved well from Robin van Persie and Abou Diaby headers, while the former also hit the post at the start of the second half.

But Fulham created chances of their own, particularly in the opening stages when Andy Johnson and Simon Davies came within a whisker of ruining Arsenal’s hopes of chalking up a sixth consecutive clean sheet.

The Cottagers remain winless away from home in the league but this impressive display still delighted manager Roy Hodgson, who insisted his team had touched new heights at the Emirates.
