Arsenal swept past Burnley with a convincing 3-0 victory in their FA Cup fifth-round tie at the Emirates.
Three superb goals eased fluent Arsenal into the FA Cup quarter-finals.

Carlos Vela put the home side ahead at the Emirates Stadium with a delightful chip in the 25th before Eduardo volleyed home a superb second and Emmanuel Eboue added a third goal six minutes from time.

“I believe we were serious when it was difficult and we added brilliance when they dropped their level,” said Wenger.

“Overall, I believe we did the job in a conscientious and good way.

“I believe when you score goals it helps always to lift the confidence and the belief and it’s important for us to go to Roma feeling we have done the job well,” the Frenchman added.

“The first two were exceptional goals but I also liked the third one because it was a good combination, the way we like to play.

“What was important for us also, going away in the Champions League, was that we didn’t concede,” Wenger said.

Eduardo, who only recently returned to action after more than a year out with broken leg and Theo Walcott, back after surgery on a shoulder injury sustained during training with England before their November friendly against Germany, both came through unscathed.

Wenger was understandably glad to have two of his stars back ahead of a key week in Arsenal’s season.

“It is important to give them competition and to know that even if they are not completely there yet that we have resources always on the bench if they are needed to come on and score goals or be dangerous.

“But it was as well to get them through, Theo for 20 minutes and Eduardo for 70 minutes, without any injuries.”

Arsenal, whose ability to qualify for next season’s Champions League has been called into question by some poor domestic results, could end the upcoming week back in the Premier League’s top four and in the last eight of both the FA Cup and the Champions League.

“That’s what we work very hard on,” Wenger said.

“It’s not done but we have the belief that’s what we want to achieve.”
