cahill-goals Everton’s Tim cahill hit a double as the socceroos came from behind to beat japan 2-1 tonight.Cahill scored two second-half goals in front of an estimated 70,000 fans at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.The Socceroos fell behind minutes when Marcus Tulio Tanaka was left to roam unmarked in the Aussie box before heading past Mark Schwarzer. Tim Cahill turned the match in the hosts’ favour with a double in the second half, the Everton hitman first met a Vince Grella free-kick with a looping header over the keeper .Cahill hit the winner late in the match meeting a corner at the back-post to complete the turnaround and sending the home crowd wild.

Lucas Neill, who missed last week’s match while serving a suspension, was also back for Australia.

“It’s starting to sink in now. It’s been a great campaign by everyone,” Neill said. “This is great reward in front of a great crowd.”
Both Japan and Australia had already booked their berths for South Africa 2010 ahead of the final qualifier and only top place in Group 1 was at stake.Highlights below
