Rodrigo Palacio celebrated his return to the starting lineup with the goal in Boca Juniors’ 1-0 win over Ecuador’s Deportivo Cuenca in the Copa Libertadores on Tuesday.

Palacio, who hadn’t played since October, scored in the 12th minute of the Group 2 match at the Bombonera.

Boca, a four-time winner of the Copa since 2000, made a low-key debut against its less celebrated rival from Ecuador.

Just before kickoff, Boca coach Carlos Ischia made a surprise change to his formation, bringing in a third forward Pablo Mouche in place of Nicolas Gaitan.

With Juan Roman Riquelme pulling the strings behind an offensive triangle of Mouche on the right, Palacio on the left and Lucas Viatri down the middle, the Argentine champion opened the scoring from a free kick
