A tough-fought victory for the home side, who looked as if they’d win 12-0 after the first half-hour or so – but all credit to Zola’s Hammers for fighting back and making a match of it.A stunning Matthew Taylor free kick after just nine minutes put the home side ahead after James Collison fouled Mark Davies just outside the box.

The lead was doubled just two minutes later as Kevin Davies got on the end of a cross from Johan Elmander to hit an excellent finish across Robert Green’s goal.

West Ham were stunned for some time, but fought back towards the end of the first half and took hope from a 66th-minute Scott Parker equaliser.

Bolton keeper Jaaskelainen did well to keep out Cole’s bouncing header and would have been thankful for the lack of pace in Valon Behrami’s shot as West Ham went all out in search of a late equaliser.

Kevin Davies had penalty appeals rejected late on when he was brought down by James Tomkins but the first half double-strike was enough to secure the points for BoltonYet the hosts held on – often with 10 men behind the ball – to earn a hard-won three points that will help keep them clear of the relegation zone
