Campbell on move as Hughes wants Etoo

City have not given up on their hopes of signing the player even though this week’s indication has been that Eto’o would remain at the Nou Camp.
Hughes said: “You stand or fall by your strikers. There are times when you need somebody with the ability to win games on their own – top clubs have them.”
Hughes believes Manchester City are ready to deal with the growing expectations surrounding the club.
Hughes spent last season playing down the hype after the Blues were taken over but after a summer of spending feels his squad are now strong enough to challenge the ‘Big Four’.
He said: “People’s perceptions about us will be accurate this year. We are getting close to where we need to be.”
Meanwhile Sol Campbell is set to make a decision on his future – but looks unlikely to stay at Portsmouth.
The defender, 34, is out of contract at Fratton Park and is now eager to get a deal in place for next season.
Campbell told Sky Sports News: “At Portsmouth, it seems a lot of things are happening in the background. It may resolve itself, I don’t know, but I want to be in the right environment.”
