Can Tottenham Afford To Lose Gareth Bale?

It is a conundrum that many managers face – can they afford to lose their star player when the transfer widow opens in January? At White Hart Lane that dilemma is something that Harry Redknapp may have to think long and hard about when it comes to the future of Gareth Bale. Tottenham are really going places at the moment, they are fifth in the Premier League table and according to the online betting from Totesport, they are 9/4 to once again achieve a top 4 finish. They are also establishing themselves as a Champions League side and they sit second in Group A as things stand.

There is no doubt that the Spur’s star is on the rise and this is due in no small part to the hard work, tenacity and skill of Gareth Bale.  Since his arrival at White Hart Lane in May 2007 from Southampton he has gradually blossomed from a promising youngster into one of the hottest properties in the Premier League.

When Manchester United came calling last summer, Harry Redknapp managed to hang on to the player. Since then of course Bale’s stock has risen even higher. After scoring that brilliant hat-trick against reigning European champions Inter at the San Siro in October in a match that almost saw Spurs get back on level terms after going 4-0 down to the Italian champions even more clubs have started to take an interest in signing the Welsh international.

With the dust settling after the Rooney rumpus, one question that football fans will be asking is who Sir Alex Ferguson will sign now that the Glazers have given him the go ahead to spend £50 million in the transfer market. One clear possibility is that he will be getting in touch with Tottenham to revive his bid to sign Gareth Bale.

Of course, Spurs will be desperate to keep the left-sided player but will United now be in a position to make Tottenham an offer that they simply cannot refuse? We will have to wait and see but for the time being Spurs fans can sit back and enjoy watching the 21 year old playing quality football and helping the Lilywhites hit new heights.
