12 Amazing game this one as it rained goals in chelsea tonight as both these giants played champions league tennis and you could not guess what would happen next but chelsea in the end made it to the semi final.Liverpool stunned chelsea in the first half going 2-0 up but then chelsea went one better by pulling 3 back in the second half  to make it 3-2.Still there was  more to come  liverpool then scored another 2 ! to make it 3-4 but chelsea hit back to make it 4-4 what a game. One of the best champions league’s ties ever had just about everything this one both liverpool and chelsea played there part in a great game.

Liverpool had dominated proceedings from the off and it came as no surprise when they opened the scoring after 19 minutes.

Great awareness from Aurelio saw him catch out the usually reliable Petr Cech with a 30-yard free-kick which he snuck inside the right post with the Chelsea keeper thinking he could cross it.

Liverpool were then in dreamland after 28 minutes as Ivanovic was penalised for holding in the box and Alonso fired home from the spot. All of sudden a 3-1 first-leg  looked like being wiped out, but the contest was turned on its head in spectacular fashion after the interval.

A slight flick from Didier Drogba on a low Nicolas Anelka cross was enough to see Reina loose the ball and slide it into his own net seven minutes into the second half, before Alex rifled home the most spectacular of free-kicks five minutes later.Lampard then benefitted from some fine work by Drogba on 76 minutes to put the Blues in front, but within five minutes Lucas levelled matters once again when his deflected effort beat a stranded Cech.

Kuyt then nodded home from close range on 82 minutes as the Reds began to believe again, only for Lampard to dash their dreams again in the final minute when he lashed a shot intop the top corner. The game had everything and on the night the best team over 2 legs just made the difference and that was chelsea but as always liverpool never gave up.It should be a great semi-final between Chelsea and Barcelona. Chelsea’s defense looks very weak at the moment and they might have to outscore Barcelona if they want to reach the Champions League semi-final for the second straight year.

A second-half booking for Ashley Cole, meaning he will be suspended for the first leg at Barcelona on 28 April.

Lampard, who admitted he was “in bits”, told ITV1: “It was a great game of football.

“We made it hard for ourselves and Liverpool are a fantastic team. But it’s a great night, we’re through.”The England midfielder added: “Our character at half-time, to turn it around, says a lot about the players.”Of the forthcoming last-four clash with in-form Barcelona, Drogba said: “It’s going to be difficult but if we want to win the Champions League we have to play these big teams.”

We thought the comback might have been possable

Rafa quoted after the game

When you play against a team like Chelsea, though, you are made to pay for your mistakes and even though we were pushing and attacking, there were one or two mistakes and they scored.”Clearly when you lose you are disappointed, but to lose in this way you have to be really proud, hold your head up and think about the Premier League.

Sky’s duo Phil Thompson and Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink who were reporting on the game live on air so funny!
