Chelsea are crowned new Premier League champions after a thrilling 8-0 victory over Wigan at Stamford Bridge today Ancelotti guided the Blues to their first Premier League title since 2006, finishing one point clear of bitter rivals Manchester United.

The Premier League champions finished the season with an incredible 103 goals – the highest in the Premier League since Manchester United in 2000 – and the first to achieve more than 100 since Tottenham in 1962/3.

Chelsea are now set to become the seventh team in the history of the game to win both the Premier League and the FA Cup if they can beat Portsmouth at Wembley next Saturday.

Nicolas Anelka
opened the scoring for Chelsea, collecting a knock down from Florent Malouda to put the ball beyond Wigan keeper Mike Politt.

Wigan centre-half Gary Caldwell compounded Wigan’s woes after being sent of after 30 minutes for bringing down Frank Lampard inside the penalty box.

A disagreement broke out between Chelsea players after Frank Lampard refused to let Drogba, who was chasing the Golden Boot, take the penalty.
He told Sky Sports: “Yes, I understood (Lampard). But at the same time I was disappointed because I wanted to score.

“I was not happy at first but then I realised I was making a big mistake. He was right.

“I had to get over this frustration in the second half and come back. We were playing so well I knew I would have some chances to score.”

Of the incident, Lampard added: “It was nothing. That’s the way Didier is. He is hungry.”

Lampard stepped up to place the penalty into the bottom corner, and leave Chelsea with a comfortable lead before half time.

Kalou sealed the title in the 54th minute after teaming up with Frank Lampard, before Anelka struck again in the 57th with a sensational volley.

Drogba struck in the 63rd, 68th and 79th minute to win the Golden Boot award, ahead of Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney.

Cole completed the rout when he volleyed home in the final minute to make it 8-0.( See video highlights here)
