When the Blackburn Rovers’ new Indian owners took over the ownership of the club, they had said that they would do everything possible to ensure that the club goes on to become the best in the world. If they manage to get Diego Maradona out of his retirement and as a manager of the team, it would be a giant step in that direction.

According to reports, the Rao brothers, who own the Rovers have decided to approach the Argentine in a bid to attract him to replace Sam Allardyce in the role of a manager. Maradona was earlier the manager of the Argentina side during the World Cup in which they lost in the quarter-final.

The sport of soccer is becoming very popular in India. To add to that, Maradona’s following in the country has been phenomenal, even since the days when the sport wasn’t that big in the country, and the owners will be looking to tap this mix.

Currently, the Rovers are at the 13th position in the points table with 21 points from 17 games. They had lost their previous game to Bolton Wanderers that led to the sacking of Allardyce

An Indian insider said: “Maradona is seen as the right profile for the VH Group. He could be offered the manager’s job, the general manager’s job or even technical director.
