Germany again got the better off England in a final situation this time the ladies European Championship final.Birgit Prinz put the reigning world champions ahead after just twenty minutes i thr first half.
Melanie Behringer then hit a stunning 40 yard strike to make it 2-0. England came back immediately through Karen Carney and at half time the score was 2-1.
Shortly after the break, the Germans went 3-1 up through a goal from Kim Kuli but yet again England came back. This time it was Kelly Smith who scored making it 3-2 on the night
That was the last of England’s goals though and the Germans never looked like losing.
In the 62nd minute Inka Grings put them 4-2 up and then scored again a few minutes later to take the lead to 5-2 with a sweet curling shot.
That took Grings’ tally to a record six goals in the tournament. Captain Prinz put the iceing on the cake finishing the game off with a shot from just inside the area.
