FA Cup Serves Up A Few Surprises

The FA Cup has always been a haunting ground for a number of the top clubs within the English game, allowing lower league opposition to create a new chapter within the ‘David vs Goliath’ aspect of the game as top clubs fail to overcome their lower league opponents.

This week has been no different, free spending Manchester City falling foul to a determined Notts County side who were able to secure an away replay after they launched an attack on the Premier League title hopefuls and secured a 1-1 draw.

Elsewhere, Arsenal made hard work of Huddlesfield Town, beating their less favoured opponents 2-1 at the full time whistle in a game that many thought that the Londoners would have found more than comfortable.

Other Premier League outfits were also in action today, West Ham seeing off  Nottingham Forrest in a tight fought 3-2 victory while Stoke saw off the challenge of their Wolverhampton counterparts in a 1-0 victory.

Even the game still in action while we write this, Fulham verses Tottenham has produced a shock, Fulham at this moment in time beating their rivals 4-0 and pushing hard for more as Aaron Hughes crashed the ball onto the crossbar.

It just goes to show why so many fans and lower league clubs look forward to this tournament so much each season, with football being a game of skill and determination, even the smaller clubs in the running are in with a chance to clash with some of the biggest names in English football.
