sir-alex-old Ferguson’s apology for his attack on Staffs referee Alan Wiley has been criticised as a half-hearted effort.
The Manchester United manager made personal statements about Wiley’s fitness which mr Wiley and most of the premeirship did not was not happy about .Ferguson was fuming with Wiley’s handling of the recent 2-2 draw between Manchester United and Sunderland at Old Trafford.

He made a series of personal statements including  that he took longer than necessary to book players and he went on to say he needs a time out from football to rest.

Alan Leighton, national secretary of the union Prospect, told Five Live: “He clearly hasn’t retracted the statement about Alan being unfit, so it’s not an apology for the main offence caused.”

The FA really should crack down on Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson, claims union chief Alan Leighton.

Leighton, the national secretary of Prospect, felt Ferguson’s apology to referee Alan Wiley was “half-hearted”.

He told Five Live: “What’s problematic is when the integrity of refereeing is being questioned. The punishment should be a Uefa-type coaching ban, which is rather more than a touchline ban.”

Bad or good idea?
