gerrard Steven Gerrard has been cleared of unjustly attacking a man in a bar.

Gerrard admitted hitting Marcus McGee in a Southport bar last December and a jury at the Liverpool Crown Court accepted explanation of self-defence.

The 29-year-old was the only one of seven defendants to be cleared over the incident at the Lounge Inn during which Mr McGee lost a tooth.
The Liverpool captain and England midfielder admitted hitting a man in a Southport bar last December but the jury accepted his self-defence claim.

Gerrard denied affray and said he was acting in self-defence, as he believed Mr McGee was about to attack him.

He told the court: “I couldn’t understand why the guy had such a problem with me, why he was so aggressive.

“I was also concerned that if I did leave it I would not have been able to enjoy my night, he may have come over to me.

“Very quickly he came off the bar stool and was in my face right by me.”

The Liverpool jury accepted his explanation

Gerrard, 29, said: “Can I just say how pleased I am with today’s verdict. I’d like to put this case behind me. I’m really looking forward to the season ahead and concentrating on football.”
