gerrard-player-of-the-year-2009 Gerrard has pulled out of the England squad for Wednesday’s friendly against Holland in Amsterdam.

The Liverpool skipper trained on Monday but felt slight soreness in his groin and has withdrawn as a precaution.

Liverpool will be hoping the injury is not serious and that Gerrard will be fit for Sunday’s Premier League opener at Tottenham

Glen Johnson is all ready to go to show his maturity in a huge year for England and new club Liverpool.

The full-back admits he struggled with the weight of expectation after joining Chelsea in 2003, leading to a nightmare start at international level.

But he said: “At the time I’d just turned 18 so I didn’t batter myself too much. I’m a different person now, just through age and turning into a man.”
