Giggs lands PFA Award and Young

Manchester United midfielder Ryan Giggs has been named PFA player of the year – the first time he has won the award in his glittering career.

Giggs had picked up the young player’s award twice and has now been voted for the top accolade by his fellow professionals after a fine season.

The 35-year-old said: “I’ve been fortunate to win a lot of trophies, but this is the big one.”

Ashley top of young crop

Aston Villa and England winger Ashley Young has picked up the PFA’s young player of the year award.

Young, signed from Watford for an initial £8m in 2007, has played a key role in Villa’s season which at one stage saw them flirting with a top-four finish and a Champions League spot.

He said: “It’s a massive achievement for the club and my team-mates around me. It’s a great honour.”
