Liverpool goal legend Ian Rush has shown that he is interested in becoming the next manager of Wales, succeeding John Toshack. The 48-year-old remains Wales’s all-time leading scorer, with 28 goals in 73 games, between 1980 and 1996.

There are a number of interested parties who have already shown an interest in the post and it seems that it could be a ‘name in the hat’ situation with more interested expected over upcoming days.

Brian Flynn is currently at the helm of the national side while they play their Euro 2012 qualifiers and even though the caretaker manager has suffered two successive defeats, he still remains in the running for the job.

When asked if he would be interested in the Wales job if approached, Rush said “If you are asked, then it is very difficult to say no. There will a lot of people interested.”

Although interested in the post, Rush also made it clear that anyone who wanted to take on the job would have to be aware that the task isn’t an easy one, saying “It’s not an impossible job but it’s a difficult one. There are some fantastic youngsters, but for me it is getting them all the play.”

Brian Flynn is currently holding down the position on a temporary basis after John Toshack left  last month.
