This is one of the worst things you would think could happen in football but actually did!. FC Nordsjaelland reserves a team from Denmark ended in tragedy on Monday night after a bolt of lighting struck a player, leaving the footballer near to death. As it is the prognosis is still gravely concerning after Jonathan Richter was left in a coma after the lightning attack. Richter was said to have been struck directly in either the chest or head area. Such was its power, up to six other footballers on the pitch were said to have been knocked over at the time this hit! Richter has been put in artificial coma to help with his battle for survival
We dont think you are unlikely to find a more distressing report in the world of football this year it just shows you anything can happen in this sport
Update 01/9/2009
The main damage was to his leg medics restarted his heart, but he was placed in an induced coma and doctors decided, along with Richter, the damage to his leg was so severe they needed to amputate the lower portion of it.
A message on the club’s website read: “Jonathan’s progress means a lot to the Richter family, friends and all involved with FC Nordsjaelland, but the family now request that all continue to respect the peace that Jonathan needs in the future as he faces tough rehabilitation.”
He was reportedly recovering well from the operation and was expected to be moved out of intensive care shortly.
