Arshavin scored four for Arsenal and Benayoun hit a injury-time equaliser for Liverpool in a 4-4 amazing draw at anfield tonight.In an incredible match, Russian star Arshavin became the first man to score four goals in a League game at Anfield in 53 years ! with Arsenal’s only four shots on target!.He put the gunners ahead against the run of play after 36 minutes only for Fernando Torres and Benayoun to give Liverpool the advantage with goals within seven storming minutes early in the second-half.Arshavin then struck on 67 and 70th minute only for Torres to add his second two minutes later to level once more.
Torres had a header cleared off the line by Gibbs from Alonso’s corner with nine minutes to go and Carragher fired over from Aurelio’s cross as Liverpool desperately pushed for the winner.And that cost them as Walcott broke from a corner and played in Arshavin to score his fourth in injury time. The Russian, Arsenal’s record signing, appeared to have won an incredible contest for the visitors after a lightning counter-attack in the 90th minute with a sweet hit.
But Benayoun popped up to scuff home a close range shot in injury-time to take Liverpool to the top of the Premier League for 24 hours at least.
The Merseysiders are ahead of Manchester United, who host Portsmouth on Wednesday, on goal difference but they have played a game more and will feel they have dropped two points regardless of the entertainment served up
Benitez admits Liverpool were poor at the back but was nevertheless satisfied with aspects of the performance.
“I think today we made too many mistakes but it is also very positive because the team showed character until the last minute,” he told Sky Sports.
“It is difficult to explain (the errors) and we made a massive mistake at the end but maybe we were a little nervous.
“But the positive thing is we have one more point against a good team and we are top of the table
