In Skopje, Macedonia, John Heitinga and Rafael van der Vaart scored a goal each Wednesday to help the Netherlands beat Macedonia 2-1.

Heitinga headed in a deflected cross from Arjen Robben early in the second half of the Group 9 game at Gradski Stadium.
Van der Vaart found the net in the 59th minute, turning on the ball for a quick strike to convert a pass from Mark van Bommel.
Goran Pandev scored a penalty in the 77th for Macedonia’s goal.
The Macedonians fought hard for a second straight upset after beating Scotland 1-0 Saturday and matched the visitors for long spells with a fast and physical game.

Pandev had a goal disallowed in the 35th when he flicked the ball past Netherlands goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg. Polish referee Grzegorz Gilewski ruled the play offside.
The hosts kept up the pressure as the Dutch repeatedly gave the ball away in the competitive debut for Netherlands coach Bert van Marwijk.
Robben returned to fitness and almost put the Netherlands ahead in the 17th when he chipped the ball over Petar Milosevski and hit the crossbar
