Zenit St Petersburg won the Eurpean Super Cup for the first time in their history after beating Manchester United 2-1 in Monaco.United and Paul Scholes looked to have drawn level in the last minute but Scholes had risen well only to slap a Wes Brown cross into the net. He was duly booked, and as it was his second, was sent off!!
Goals either side of half-time from Pavel Pogrebnyak and Danny Alves were enough but the Russian Champions had to hold on for the last twenty minutes as United laid siege to their goal.
Zenit’s first came on the stroke of half-time – the timing was harsh but it was deserved. A near post Igor Denisov flick looked to be heading in, but Pogrebnyak made sure – charging in late to head home.
And Danny added to that lead on the 58th minute. Picking the ball up a full forty yards out Zenit’s new record signing weaved his way past Nemanja Vidic and Ferdinand before waiting for Van der Sar to go down and sliding it the other way. And that looked to be that.
But Vidic set up a tense finale after tucking away from close range after a Tevez and Rooney combined following a near post Nani corner.

WHAT ABOUT THIS THEN?
