Manchester united got a slender lead over arsenal tonight in the first leg of the semi final champions league tie.It could have been all over in the first half as united had many chances but the arsenal keeper Manuel Almunia was difference with a string of fine saves.
The Arsenal keeper his side’s hero and saved superbly to deny Wayne Rooney and Carlos Tevez early on.
But he was beaten when John O’Shea shot home from a Michael Carrick cross.
Arsene Wenger’s men did come into the game slightly more after the break, but their usually reliable passing game let them down all too often nor did they quite recover from the early United siege
Emmanuel Adebayor was having an off night as a lone frontman, while Samir Nasri and Theo Walcott were well shackled by the United back four
Almunia blocked a point-blank Cristiano Ronaldo header before the winger went agonisingly close to stealing the headlines as he cracked the crossbar with a 30-yard thunderbolt which left Almunia in no mans land.
It’s now all set for a great return leg at arsenal in a weeks time and this tie for sure is still there for the taking for manchester united or arsenal.
