Wenger has today told the media that he is more than willing to allow midfielder Samir Nasri to leave the Premier League club and he will even allow that to happen on a free transfer.

The comment comes as speculation over the player’s future at the North London club began to raise following interest in the player from English champions Manchester United, seemingly enough interest to leave the player looking to find the Emirates Stadium exit this summer.

Wenger has battled to keep hold of the player, even looking to offer the player a new improved contract with the club but Nasri seems to be set on leaving the club before the start of the new season in August.

Now that Wenger realises that he will not be able to retain the services of the player next season due to his contract only having 12 months still to run, he has openly stated that he is only too happy to allow the player to leave the club on a free transfer, only he will have to see out his remaining contract term in which to do that.

Also today winger Stewart Downing has finally been given the opportunity to speak to Premier League side Liverpool after the news that both clubs have come to an agreement over a price for his purchase.

Aston Villa official Paul Faulkner revealed “We’ve reached an agreement with Liverpool following an improved offer received on Wednesday and the submission of a transfer request by Downing.”

The left sided winger has previously shown his desire to join the Merseyside club after claiming that he wanted to join a club that can win trophies and compete for the Premier League title and now it seems that he has forced the move through the submission of a written transfer request.

Faulkner told that they club reached the agreement following careful consideration and analysis of the market of available options, pointing out that the club felt that there were replacements that were able to improve their current squad.

Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish is pleased to have broken the stonewall effect that the Midlands club had seemed to present in their reluctance to sell the England international and with the green light given, Downing look set to be the Merseyside club’s third major signing of the summer.
