owen-manchester-united Owen is back !He signed a 2 year deal today which started over a breakfast invite from sir alex, could this be the best move ever for him or a bad move on Alex Fergusons part only time will tell.Owen signed today on a free transfer after passing a medical at Carrington training ground  and Personal Terms With Manchester United. This will come as a big surprise to many in football but this could give owen the chance to shine once more and better still get in the england line up for the world cup next year.

Owen’s move is unlikely to go down well with Liverpool supporters after the striker spent a great eight years with the Reds having started his career at Anfield.Owen with 89 england caps then moved to Real for one season in 2004 before joining Newcastle on a four-year deal.

Owen made 79 appearances for the Magpies and scored 30 goals in four seasons at St James’ Park. But an ankle injury and groin operation severely disrupted his final year at the club, with the last of his 10 league goals for the 2008-09 campaign coming against West Ham on 10 January

Will it be a gamble for Alex and will owen do well staying injury free?in the past look at what the manager did for cantona  and Henrik Larsson so anything is possable!

Manager Sir Alex Ferguson told the club’s official website: “Michael is a world class forward with a proven goalscoring record at the highest level and that has never been in question.

“Coming to Manchester United with the expectations that we have is something that Michael will relish.”

Owen said: “I had just begun to talk to other clubs when out of the blue Sir Alex phoned me on Wednesday afternoon, invited me to have breakfast with him the next morning during which he told me that he wanted to sign me. I agreed without a moment’s thought.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for me and I intend to seize it with both hands.I want to thank Sir Alex for the faith he has shown in me and I give him my assurance that I will repay him with my goals and performances”

Liverpool Legend Ian Rush Backed Owen to do well “People have knocked Michael Owen all his career but he comes back bigger and better,” Rush told Sky Sports News. “People said he was finished years ago but he’s a fantastic player who comes back stronger and better.

“Personally, I’d like to have seen him at Liverpool, but they haven’t lost their best strikers. Rafael Benitez will be happy with what he’s got,” Rush concluded.
