Rene Higuita the Scorpion King Hangs up his Boots

Rene Higuita many will remember him for his famous incredible Scorpion save during a friendly with England at Wembley in 1995.

England coach Terry Venables at the time quoted “I have only one word to describe it, extraordinary,” ( see the second video below)

Higuita stepped out on the field for the final time in his distinguished career after the 43-year-old keeper staged a testimonial against a Colombian all-stars XI this weekend.

Higuita was joined with some famous blasts from the pasts with the likes of  Carlos Valderrama, Faustino Asprilla, Leonel Alvarez,  and Victor Aristizabal.Higuita was well known for his crazy out of goal actions making bruce grobbelaar look like a novice when it came to total comedy in football.

But in his last match he made sure he was the main highlight not only did he pull of the famous scorpion kick he also stepped up to score a blinding freekick from 25 yards.
At 43 he can still do it!
