Steve Coppell leaves reading
Steve Coppell has resigned as Reading manager in the wake of the club’s 2-0 defeat at home to Burnley in the second leg of the Championship play-offs.
The Royals had been one of the favourites for promotion but their form fell away late in the season and the 53-year-old has decided to step down.
Coppell told the club website: “I feel it is the best thing, for both the club and myself, for me to leave.”
Reading defender Andre Bikey has been charged with improper conduct by the FA following his dismissal in the play-off semi-final first-leg defeat at Burnley.
The 24-year-old Cameroon international reacted furiously after being shown a straight red card in time added on for stamping on Robbie Blake.
An FA statement confirmed: “A regulatory commission will hear the case on Thursday, May 21.”
