Sunderland boss Ricky Sbragia admitted his side are deep in relegation trouble after a demoralising ninth home defeat of the season against Everton.

Goals from Stephen Pienaar and Marouane Fellaini left the Black Cats two places and four points above the drop zone.

Sbragia said: “It’s the same situation as last week and the week before and it’s a concern. We had a great chance to get the gap opened up a bit.”

David Moyes was thrilled to see injury-hit Everton jump back into fifth place with victory over Sunderland and called for a big finish to the season.

Stephen Pienaar scored the first and set up Marouane Fellaini’s clincher in a 2-0 triumph on Wearside.

Moyes said: “We are in Europe anyway through the FA Cup, but what we have got to be sure is we don’t get caught by one of the clubs behind.”
