United win in Milan as Lyon shock MadridWayne rooney helped united take a 3-2 win in milan back to old trafford for the second leg in the champions league tonight in a great game as david beckham faced his old team since his move those many years ago.Rooney was the match-winner with a second-half double with his head to earn United a precious first-leg advantage.

They came after Paul Scholes lucky equaliser but Milan played their luck also after Ronaldinho’s deflected opener.

Clarence Seedorf’s skilful 85th-minute flick finish gave Milan a fighting finish as united held for there first ever win in Milan , Michael Carrick was sent off in injury time for kicking the ball away.
United’s defence  at times wea poor tonight particularly Jonny Evans –were vulnerable whenever tested, even gifting Milan opportunities at times, but come the home leg in three weeks time im sure this will be different.

Sir Alex Ferguson is glad his side recovered after a catalogue of mistakes in the first half  (Video Here)

Real Madrid was also out played tonight away at lyon lost 1-0 despite the presence of such standouts as Cristiano Ronaldo, Kaka, Gonzalo Higuain and Karim Benzema,

Lyon will be kicking themselves not having put another two or three goals past the Spanish side, but squandered chances and bad luck haunted the French team.

The post denied Cesar Delgado a goal when he hammered a volley into the woodwork in the first half, and Lyon had to settle for Makoun’s 47th-minute strike with a wonder 25-yard volley that easily beat Real Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas

Former Lyon idol Karim Benzema came off the Real bench 25 minutes from time but failed to make much of an impact.

Lyon striker Lisandro Lopez said that “this is an excellent result for us, though it could have been ever better.”

Jorge Valdano, Real’s general director, admitted that it had been “a bad night” and that “we were not really us tonight…”We are now obliged to make a real concentrated effort” (in the return leg).

Great Christmas Cracker this and our picture of the month shows Arsenal, United and Chelsea all happy under the tree but a very sad Fernando Torres looking on.Im sure liverpool will have a better push next year chin up but rafa play your best players. Not bad drawing from a 10 year old :) football jokes

Torres unhappy
“Obviously we need players. If we can bring quality players it should be really positive for us, but I think the situation is really difficult because I think we don’t have money to bring in the best players. It’s a difficult situation but every top team in the world goes sometimes through a bad situation like Liverpool now. Like every top team in the world, Liverpool will get over the situation. I have confidence in myself and my team. I know we are good enough. We were playing really well last season with the same team. We have to just recover the mentality and the confidence in ourselves and everything will be different.” – Fernando Torres
