Leeds Knockout Manchester united in the Fa cup
January 3, 2010
Sir Alex Ferguson was angry to see his side go down to a team which lie 42 league places below them but Jermaine Beckford’s first half goal was enough to dump out the Premier League champions out of the fa cup. This was Fergie’s first Third Round defeat and will surely rank as one of the most miserable occasions of his illustrious career. United never got going in the first-half as the visitors made all the early running. In the 19th minute Beckford, who has been attracting considerable interest from Championship and Premier League clubs, got beyond the United defence to stroke his shot past Tomas Kuszack in the United goal.
Ferguson’s fixation with stoppage-time also led him to describe the referee Chris Foy’s decision to award five minutes at the end as “an insult to the game and the players out there”.
No striker has caused more problems at Old Trafford since Fernando Torres inspired Liverpool to a 4-1 victory last April. You can see how much it means to the fans and no lipreading is needed to understand this fan ( see second video below)
