Henry Handball puts Ireland Out

November 19, 2009

henry handball ireland Henry Handball puts Ireland OutA late goal in extra time was handed to William Gallas by henry to score and end the irish chances of going to the world cup next year.

Ireland made the trip to Paris trailing 1-0 from the first leg, but they dominated the game and Robbie Keane’s goal put them ahead 33 minutes and took the match to extra-time.

There was nothing between the two sides, but Thierry Henry helped with a blatant handball in the build-up to William Gallas’s goal
that put france in and ireland out.
Ireland should be proud how they took france on in their own back yard but justice was not done in this game, the irish luck was not with them this time

Now i truly understand how the English felt after Maradona’s “Hand of God”.The Irish lads were exceptional & didn’t deserve to loose in that manner

I think now its time to put Hawk Eye Technology in for football and next years world cup

Nicolas Anelka scored a deflected strike 18 minutes from time gave the French a 1-0 win at Croke Park.

The Chelsea striker got free on the edge of the Ireland box before his shot took a wicked deflection off defender Sean St Ledger and flew into the net.

Ireland showed early promise as captain Robbie Keane saw a shot blocked, Liam Lawrence had a shot deflected past the post from a clear opening and Keith Andrews shot wide but could not get the break in the end

The defeat leaves Giovanni Trapattoni’s men with it all to do in the return leg in Paris, with the Irish needing to win by two clear goals to go through on the night and participate in their first World Cup finals since 2002.It could prove telling next week as the 1998 World Champions take a slender 1-0 lead going into the return match at the Stade de France

French striker Thierry Henry was refusing to write off their Irish opponents ahead of the second leg.

There are still 90 minutes to go so it will be a tough game for us in Paris,” he told Sky Sports.
