Liverpool get stuck in Lille is it game over

March 12, 2010

liverpool joke Liverpool get stuck in Lille is it game overIs it getting to the point that Liverpool can’t even win in the Europa League. Lille, who are sixth in Ligue 1 and outplayed Liverpool in the first leg of their round of 16 last night but deserve the 1-0 win. As for liverpool again no passion or real desire being shown and the creativity was really lacking again from another poor performance from the reds, i can only thing its down to confidence within the team and a really bad board

In rafa we trust?  “I have confidence we can beat anyone on a good day at Anfield. The fans will play a part, they will push and will be behind the team,” Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez said. “Lille are a good side, with good players and they are dangerous. We will play a difficult game at Anfield, but have confidence we can beat them.”

At least they have a second chance to put things right at anfield otherwise i know we all keep saying it but bye bye rafa time.

Rodallega Rocks Liverpool as Wigan win

March 8, 2010

Hugo Rodallega Wigan liverpool Rodallega Rocks Liverpool as Wigan winWigan put a mighty blow in liverpool’s hope of making the top 4 this season with a 1-0 win over the reds.Roberto Martinez’s side took the attack to the visitors with some enterprising play on the break through their three-pronged forward line of Charles N’Zogbia, Marcelo Moreno and Rodallega. The Reds were lacklustre throughout and did not test Latics’ goalkeeper Chris Kirkland at all at the DW Stadium, and they were punished by a strike from Hugo Rodallega in the first-half.

It was richly deserved for Wigan, who played well on their re-laid pitch, and they were rarely troubled after the break.Liverpool did have there chances as torres hit the bar and had other chances but liverpool did not make the most of them tonight and they could pay big for this come the end of the season.

The Liverpool fans watched with anger as the visitors looked lost for inspiration and creativity which was met with a chorus of boos at the full-time whistle

Liverpool miss out on the chance to move to fourth place. They remain sixth, one point behind Man City and Tottenham, both of whom have at least one game in hand. However, the win lifts Wigan up to 14th and takes them four points clear of the drop zone.

Roberto Martinez and Rafael Benitez give their views to Sky Sports after Wigan’s hard-fought victory over Liverpool at the DW stadium.( video here)

Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez:
We did not play well, especially in the first half. We did not show attitude, we worked hard after the break but without game intelligence. We had too many things that were wrong. We are not happy, we have to show more character if we want to be in the top four.”

Question is will they make the top four this season?

Europa Cup Highlights Liverpool win as Everton crash Out

February 26, 2010

Highlights here as Liverpool and Fulham have progressed into the last 16 of the Europa League, but Everton crashed out again as sporting stormed back .

Liverpool’s great away 3-1 victory over Romanian side Unirea sealed a 4-1 win on aggregate, while Fulham drew 1-1 in Ukraine to complete an impressive 3-2 overall win over last season’s UEFA Cup winners Shakhtar Donetsk.

Brede Hangeland’s headed goal gave Fulham the lead in the first half against the run of play. Shakhtar pulled one back through Jadson in the second half but couldn’t break down a stubborn Fulham defense a second time

But Everton failed to capitalise on their 2-1 first-leg victory, crashing out at the hands of Sporting Lisbon. The Toffees went down 3-nil on the night in Portugal.

The Everton manager conceded that the Portuguese side were in control from the start as they overcame a 2-1 deficit from the first leg at Goodison Park.

“We didn’t play well enough,” Moyes said. “From the start Sporting got a grip of the game, put us under pressure. I thought we’d weathered it before half-time but we never caused them enough problems.”

Juventus also progressed to the last 16 and Werder Bremen striker Claudio Pizarro scored a hat-trick as his side went through with a 4-1 win over Twente Enschede, the side now coached former England manager Steve McLaren.

And Diego Forlan’s 90th-minute goal gave Atletico Madrid a 2-1 victory at Galatasary to send them through 3-2 on aggregate
