Barcelona 4 – 2 Mallorca Highlights

November 8, 2009

A double from Pedro and a Thierry Henry first goal in six months along late Lionel Messi penalty did the damage for the barca tonight, while Portuguese defender Nunes and striker Alhassane Keita were on target for Mallorca in this one.

Pep Guardiola fielded an unfamiliar starting lineup at the Nou Camp after consecutive draws against Osasuna and Rubin Kazan, leaving Spain midfielders Xavi and Andres Iniesta on the bench along with Argentina forward Lionel Messi.

Barca have 26 points from 10 matches, four ahead of Real Madrid, who are again without the injured Cristiano Ronaldo when they play at city rivals Atletico in Sunday’s late match

barca champions 150x150 Real Mallorca 2 1 Barcelona HighlightsJustise was done tonight as the new crowned la liga champions lost .

Samuel Eto’o missed a penalty with the last kick of the game but justice was done as Barcelona suffered only their fourth defeat of the season with a 2-1 loss at Real Mallorca.

Eto’o, facing his former club, had earlier scored after ten minutes for an understrength Barca side that had been crowned Spanish champions following a defeat for Real Madrid in Saturday.

But a stunning free-kick from Juan Arango after 73 minutes and a neat header from Loureiro Cleber Santana just five minutes later turned the game in Mallorca’s favour.

Barca have not sauntered to the domestic double for nothing, though, and in what was the first of three league games before the Champions League final against Manchester United, Josep Guardiola’s side ensured a dramatic conclusion.

Eto’o headed against the post in injury time and the Cameroon international then had the perfect chance to claim his 30th goal in 34 league games when winning a penalty with just seconds remaining.

Replays showed there was little contact as the striker dramatically hurled himself to the floor, but Eto’o struck his spot-kick against the post as Mallorca held on for a deserved victory

Barca are through – just! messi saved the day again coming off from the bench and scoring abeauty of a chip! in the last 10 minutes well on par with ronaldo at the moment in fact we would say possable paying better

Barca, searching for their 25th cup crown but first since 1998, had an uncomfortable night at Real Mallorca before claiming a 1-1 draw that sent them through 3-1 on aggregate, while 23-times winners Athletic overcame a first leg deficit to knock out Sevilla 4-2 overall.

Mallorca stunned Barca first-half injury time when Castro latched onto Pierre Webos layoff to curl a superb left-footed hit into the top corner

Lionel Messi played a key role for his side, drawing the foul from Josemi in the 63rd minute that earned the Mallorca defender a second yellow card and then coolly chipping in his side`s equaliser nine minutes from time

Barca would have been hoping to put their disappointing league form behind them in the cup but Pep Guardiola`s much-changed side found it far from easy on the Balearic Islands and tonight`s draw means they have now gone five successive games without a win.
