Manchester United 2 – 1 Liverpool Highlights The Last Word

March 21, 2010

United went back to the top of the Premier League table as they broke their losing run against Liverpool by beating them 2-1 at Old Trafford coming from behind to win.Torres opened the scoring for Liverpool early with a great header before Pepe Reina saved a Wayne Rooney penalty, only for the England striker to tap in the follow up. United then completed the comeback to seal victory on from a flying header from Park Ji-sung after great work from fletcher.Torres did have a few changes to draw the game especally in the last minute when the ball bobbled on the penalty spot which he ruined in the first half kicking the spot in anger for united’s penalty.

Ferguson told SkyS: ‘It was very tight and Liverpool are good at stopping you
playing, we know that because that is your strength.
‘But you have got to be patient and we scored a tremendous goal from Park Ji-sung, who played another vital role for us today.’

Torres missed a fine late chance to snatch a point , Ferguson said: ‘Torres has maybe tried to burst the ball, but that was the only break we got in the game really.
‘Vidic was magnificent today. We have a very experienced back four, a very experienced goalkeeper and that gives us a real outstanding chance, albeit with seven difficult matches – but we have all got difficult matches, so what does it matter?

‘It could very well go to the wire, if you look at the run-ins for the teams.’

Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez felt that Valencia dived to win the penalty.
‘When you see the replay it is suspicious how he went to the ground,’ he said.
Asked whether he thought Valencia had dived Benitez said: ‘From the replay I think so.

‘It is not clear but the way he fell down …. is strange.
‘It made a big difference. We were playing well and had confidence and then one situation changed everything.’

I personally think In the end, Manchester United won because they passed the ball with more authority and provided greater support for Wayne Rooney in attacking positions than Liverpool did for Fernando Torres on the day.
