Portsmouth marched on into FA Cup semifinals yesterday after a Frederic Piquionne double to secure a 2-0 home win over Birmingham City and give its fans something to cheer about for once .
Birmingham will go away fuming after what appeared to be a valid Liam Ridgewell goal ruled not to have crossed the line and on a
day FIFA’s ruled out the use of video technolog the goal should have been given.
Its no surprise Portsmouth fans were delighted especially as the club’s almost certain to drop out of the Premier League end of this season.

Portsmouth will be the first Premier League club to go into administration on Friday.
Bankruptcy will dock 9 10 points from Portsmouth and ensure their relegation beyond all doubt. Portsmouth could easily end up where Leeds United is, toiling about the bottom tiers of the Football League. But were they wrong to reach for the stars by buying the best players they thought they could afford?
Such a well supported and respected club its a shame lets hope better news in the future for the pompey

United knockout spurs as Villa win at Portsmouth

All the carling cup action tonight as manchester united get the win over spurs 2-0 and villa win well away from home 2-4 playing at pompy.
Gibson grabbed a first-half double as Manchester United reached the semi-finals of the Carling Cup.
The midfielder struck a low effort from outside the area to give United the lead and completed a flowing team move with a lovely finish into the top corner to double the advantage .
Spurs threatened as Robbie Keane was denied by Nemanja Vidic’s block and David Bentley had a shot saved well.Spurs boss Harry Redknapp would have been pleased with the bright start made by his side, but they were unable to breach a United defence marshalled expertly by Nemanja Vidic tonight

Villa also booked their place in the Carling Cup semi-finals after an entertaining clash at Fratton Park.
Bottom of the top-flight Pompey went ahead through an own goal from Villa’s Stiliyan Petrov but Martin O’Neill’s men were in front before half-time thanks to goals from England duo Emile Heskey and James Milner.
Stewart Downing marked his first start for Villa by sealing the Midlands club’s win 16 minutes from time.
Substitute Nwankwo Kanu pulled a goal back for Pompey in the 87th minute but a minute from time Ashley Young scored Villa’s fourth.
