Liverpool win over spurs as Arsenal hit back at Bolton

January 20, 2010

liverpool win arsenal winBoth Liverpool and Arsenal won their homes games tonight in a midweek special in the premiership.Liverpool got 3 big points playing spurs at home for the battle for fourth spot which now puts them within 1 point of that .Arsenal came from behind to beat bolton 4-2 who at one point was 2-0 down.

Liverpool 2 – 0 Spurs
Liverpool got their Champions League challenge back on track with a 2-0 victory at home to rivals Tottenham Hotspur.Dirk Kuyt got two his first with asixth-minute opener and a late injury-time penalty to end a run of three matches without a win and ease the pressure on Rafael Benitez.Spurs did have their chances, Reina had to make a fine save from Luka Modric just before the interval and defoe had a goal not given for being offisde which was a 50/50 call.

Liverpool missed several opportunities to double their advantage before Kuyt eventually secured the points with his second goal of the night.
Benitez admits it was vital for his side to build on a spirited display against Stoke at the weekend and pick up three points.

“It was very important,” he told Sky Sports. “The players showed great character in the last game and today was the same.

“We worked very hard and created three or four very good chances in the second half.

“You could see the belief and everyone was trying to go forward and trying to defend also.” ( video here)

Arsenal 4- 2 Bolton

Arsenal came from two goals down to beat Bolton 4-2 at the Emirates Stadium to go top of the Premier League table tonight.
Bolton went into a 2-0 lead within 30 minutes Cahill with a volley and Matthew Taylor penalty gave Bolton the unexpected lead. But Arsenal stormed back with goals from Tomas Rosicky, Cesc Fabregas, Thomas Vermaelen and Andrei Arshavin struck back to give the Gunners the margin they needed to go top.
Arshavin’s goal took the Gunners above Chelsea on goal difference, albeit having now played a match more – but nevertheless a scenario which looked so unlikely following a resounding 3-0 home defeat by the Blues at the end of November, which left Arsenal some 11 points adrift.
Wenger told Sky Sports that it was a performance where his side needed to give absolutely everything after finding themselves two-nil down.

“I believe we had plenty of chances and fantastic spirit and I believe this team will never give up because I know that and they have shown that again tonight.”( video here)

Premiership Results Winners and Losers January 16-17

January 16, 2010

rafa is a jokeAnother Exciting Weekend of football in the premiership plenty to talk about but here are he main conclusions.

Stoke 1 -1 Liverpool - Things get bad to worse for liverpool as stoke score yet again another late goal against the reds to pull back a point.Even your grandad could have scored that last minute chance by kuyt(video) , good result for stoke how many long throws? Pulis was happy(video)

Rafa feels Reds liverpool was  robbed – as you can see from this video interview here its very hard to get a yes or no answer from Rafa

If you ever fancy a safe bet this week  spurs to score in the last 5 minutes at anfield sounds like a no loser.

Quote of the weekend – Ryan Babel  Twitter rant “Disappointing news. The boss left me out the squad. No explanation. What happened after a first good season? Scoring 10 goals, being young talent of the year, and then second and this season don’t play at all?”

Chelsea 7 – 2 SunderlandDo chelsea really need another forward? and no Didier Drogba  as they took sunderland to the cleaners with a royal blue 7-2 romp , four goals came in the first 35 minutes,  fans have got to be happy with that.

Chelsea for the title? bit early yet but they look rampant at the moment.A rare lampard header and bent scores again only real consolation for the black cats who really got taken for a long walk at the bridge.Paul Merson thinks that Chelsea were outstanding ( video) as for Ancelotti best performance of the season for him ( video)

Man Utd 3 – 0 Burnley - Good start for Brian Laws but it was to be expected away to united good news for united fans Berbatov actually scored now his value might go up but rooney again on fire you cant sell him.New kid on the block Diouf gets a goal no its not the bling king but another player from Senegal slighty taller showed mr owen how its done. Not a convincing display by united but 3 points keeps them hot on the blues heels.

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson thought it was a ‘funny game’ ( video)

Spurs 0-0 Hull City Should have been 3 points for the home team but hull played well in this one with keeper Boaz Myhill having a screamer of a game saved everything spurs launched at him.Harry Redknapp’s  500th Premier League game in charge  but no party as the Tigers took a point from their trip to White Hart Lane.

Spurs boss Harry Redknapp couldn’t have asked for any more from his players (video)

Should be a cracker at anfield this week  as both liverpool and spurs both drop points today

Wolverhampton 0 – 2 Wigan  Paul Scharner’s tug of war act must have lost wolves the game as he got red carded at home to wigan. But things looked good for wolves even with 10 men as Hugo Rodallega missed a penalty and Scharner could not score from 4 yards with a open net(miss of the season).Wigan got the 3 points in the end even when they went down to 10 men also they seemed to play better , footy its a funny old game.

Wigan boss Roberto Martinez was tremendously pleased (video)

Everton 2 – 0 Man City  So no Roberto Mancini magic today as everton outplayed manchester city and it could have been much worse as everton had plenty of chances.Robinho sulked as he came on in place of Santa Cruz but gets himself substituted by Shaun Wright-Phillips, the Brazilian went straight down the tunnel, he needs to blame himself  rather than blaming the manager.Great win for the everton Donovan is a bargain as Pienaar is looking better no matter what hairstyle he has or coloured boots.

Watch out liverpool everton are close :)

Bolton 0 – 2 Arsenal  Owen coyle could not stop arsenal and on fire Fabregas as arsenal took all the points away at bolton.Merida aka Fabregas jnr looks one for the future.Bolton highlights not many Jussi Jaaskelainen made some fine saves but it was all about the fabregas  show today ( video).

Coyle thought the score was harsh? ( video) at least the man still smiles.
