Two goals in five minutes turned the game  right around  as United took control of the clash at Old Trafford to win 2-1

Arshavin got the first with a beauty of a goal he turned into space before firing a crisp powerful drive into the united net.

Though Foster may feel he could have done better with the goal, he kept United in the game in the early moments of the second half when flicking out a foot to deny Robin van Persie from close range.

Manuel Almunia then allowed the hosts to draw level on 59 minutes as he brought down Rooney in the box and the United striker stepped up to send the Spaniard the wrong way from the spot.

Van Persie curled a free-kick from near the right touchline against Foster’s crossbar on 63 minutes and just 60 seconds later United struck decisively.

Giggs then sent in a free-kick from the right and Diaby, under no pressure from a United player, headed  past the helpless Almunia.

Dimitar Berbatov and Nani both wasted golden chances to settle any late nerves before Arsene Wenger was sent to the stands after Arsenal saw a goal ruled out deep into extra time.

Aaron Lennon grabbed a dramatic late winner as Spurs’ good start continued.

Spurs had the better of the game, with Stephen Carr blocking Lennon’s effort and Jermain Defoe missing two good chances, before sub Peter Crouch headed in Tom Huddlestone’s free-kick .

City were quickly level as Lee Bowyer seized on a defensive mix-up but Lennon cut inside two defenders to win it in the fifth minute of injury time.

Sunderland rarely threatened and Ricardo Fuller should have added a second but screwed a shot wide.

Neither side was able to create a clear chance in the first half, although Keith Andrews headed over for the hosts from Morten Gamst Pedersen’s corner.
