Emmanuel Adebayor scored at both ends as city beat chelsea in a cracking game which produced a late penalty save from Shay Given.United and Arsenal both win as liverpool get another bore draw, Villa and portsmouth also get 3 points in the bag in another exciting day in the premiership.
Man City 2 Chelsea 1
Chelsea had taken an early lead when Nicolas Anelka’s parried shot bobbled in off unlucky Emmanuel Adebayor but the City striker made amends by slotting in after a goalmouth scramble.
Carlos Tevez put the hosts in front with a great curled free-kick before Frank Lampard saw his spot-kick expertly saved by the busy Given.
A late Chelsea flurry came to nothing and City held on to record a landmark victory. Though still just sixth in the table, Mark Hughes’s side have now lost fewer games than anyone else in the Premiership
West Ham 0 Man United 4
Manchester United kept the pressure on leaders Chelsea with a rampant win away at west ham.
Paul Scholes put the visitors in front by chesting the ball down and crashing his shot past Robert Green and Darron Gibson doubled the lead with a fizzing effort into the corner.
Antonio Valencia slid home the third after good work from Anderson and Wayne Rooney completed the rout by slotting inside the left post .
Arsenal 2 Stoke 0
The critics had turned on Arsenal following their recent run of defeats but Arsene Wenger celebrated his 500th league game as Arsenal boss with a deserved victory at the Emirates.
Andrey Arshavin failed to capitalise on a one-on-one chance and mishit a shot when put through, while Cesc Fabregas had a penalty saved for the hosts.
Fabregas played in Arshavin for a great finish and the Russian also hit the bar with a deflected shot, before Aaron Ramsey sealed the win.
Aston Villa 3 Hull 0
Aston Villa brought struggling Hull’s mini revival to an abrupt end.
James Milner’s perfectly-weighted pass was rifled in by Richard Dunne and the Tigers suffered a major blow when Jimmy Bullard limped off with a knee problem after landing awkwardly.
Milner chipped in before the angle denied Hull’s Craig Fagan. John Carew wrapped it up from the spot after Matt Duke fouled Ashley Young.
Blackburn 0 Liverpool 0
Liverpool’s misfiring season continued with a stalemate against Blackburn as Allardyce watched his Blackburn side pile more pressure on under-fire Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez.
Both sides offered very little in a dismal first half but Rovers almost made a dream start to the second, only for poor control to deny Steven Nonzi.
Steven Gerrard tested Paul Robinson, David Ngog somehow hit the bar from six yards out and Dirk Kuyt’s effort was tipped over as Rovers hung on.
Portsmouth 2 Burnley 0
Struggling Portsmouth claimed a vital three points against Burnley.
Hermann Hreidarsson drilled his shot into the bottom corner after being played in by replacement Kanu in the 65th minute at Fratton Park.
And Aruna Dindane, who earlier had a penalty and follow-up header saved by Clarets keeper Brian Jensen, met Jamie O’Hara’s cross at the far post to give Avram Grant his first win in charge.
Wigan 2 Birmingham 3
Two goals from Sebastian Larsson helped Birmingham earn maximum points.
Charles N’Zogbia fired Wigan ahead in style but Larsson levelled when his free-kick evaded everyone before nestling in the corner.
Christian Benitez gave Blues the lead by chipping Mike Pollitt and another Larsson set-piece made it three before Jordi Gomez smashed his free-kick into the corner.
Wolves 2 Bolton 1
Wolves ensured their stay at the bottom of the Premier League table was brief.
Portsmouth’s win earlier in the day had seen them leapfrog the hosts, but Christophe Berra flicked on a free-kick for Jody Craddock to power home.
Richard Stearman’s header was cleared off the line before Nenad Milijas fired in . Johan Elmander pulled one back and Ivan Klasnic then wasted two chances to rescue a point for Bolton.
