Top 10 Contenders To Replace Wayne Rooney

October 20, 2010

nike future video Top 10 Contenders To Replace Wayne RooneyAlready rumors are floating around that Chelsea and Manchester City are  in the race to sign the Wayne Rooney, and City is reported to prepare a massive 100m for the forward, but the big question is can united replace him and who?

Here are a few contenders.

Fernando Torres

It seems that Torres is already on the Ferguson radar as a possible replacement but you have to question whether the club will be able to afford to secure the Liverpool hitman after reports that they could get as little as £20million for Rooney.

The signing could be a great move for the club and player but looking at the current situations that the clubs find themselves facing, it’s hard to see Torres showing an interest in a move to the Lancashire club.

Luis Sanchez

Sanchez has been a target for Manchester United for a number of months spanning back to the previous transfer window which was open over the recent summer but the club failed to agree a price for the player and so it seems that the club aren’t that desperate for his signature.

Sanchez is thought to be keen on the switch, allowing him to play his football within the football league that is regarded as the best in the world.

Emmanuel Adebayor

Okay the former Arsenal man is currently contracted to bitter rivals Man City but you can’t let that over shadow the fact that the striker has a good record within the Premier League and with strength and a knowledge of how to hit the back of the net, it seems that he offers more than Rooney at this present moment.

The deal is unlikely as it would mean that the Manchester clubs exchange players again, after former Manchester United striker Carlos Tevez moved from red to blue.

Kaka

The news that Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho is interested in offering Rooney the chance to get a change of scene, Kaka has been reported to be fearing for his place within the squad.

That means that the Brazilian playmaker could well be open to a switch to the Premier League but with Real Madrid paying a record breaking amount for him, it’s hard to see that United will be able to afford to even get to the negotiation stages.

Sergio Aguero

Aguero has been a name that has been linked with the club many times before but once again it seems that the name dropping is little more than showing a slight interest as the club have never made an approach for the striker.

Possessing flair and pace, you would be getting a player who is completely the opposite to Rooney but a player that would fit in well with the style of play that Manchester United are better known for playing.

Once again it seems that the player would be interested in a move but getting to the point where they are able to laydown their financial promises could be a little expensive.

Andy Carroll

Not a name that has been brought forward at the moment but you have to recognise that Carroll has had a great season for Newcastle United so far, his performances making Rooney look more like a League Two striker rather than an English international.

At 21 years old the club would have plenty of years of service from the youngster who is still at the age where Ferguson can sculpt him into a player that he wants, meaning that he could really mould the player into one of the best players in the world.

The suggestion is little more than that and you have to think that the club wouldn’t be interested in the player as he is not a big enough household name.

Diego Forlan

The former Manchester United striker had a tough time at the club but following a move to Spain, he has developed into one of the most feared strikers in the world.

Forlan has already issued a come and get me plea to Premier League sides, saying that he would be interested in returning to England to show that he has the ability to be a top player in the best football league in the world.

Karim Benzema

A former target that chose to move to Real Madrid over Manchester United and seems to have failed to make an impact on the squad, spending more time on the subs bench than on the field.

It was reported that the striker could be available for as little as £13million earlier in the season and with the club set to net between £20-35million for Rooney, meaning that the club would not have to invest any extra funding into the purchase.

Whether Benzema would be able to find form in the Premier League is still to be seen but you have to accept that he could be one of the front runners to replace Rooney.

Giuseppe Rossi

Another former Manchester United player who was sold off due to the lack of first team appearances at that point but with the player showing that Manchester United acted too rashly, it seems that they could be interested in buying the player back.

Rossi would be available for the club to pursue as at the time of selling the striker to Villarreal, they added a buy back price into the deal.

Not really the type of player that is going to shine in the Premier League in our eyes but he could prove all us critics wrong if given the chance.

Fernando Llorente

Another young and exciting Spanish international how could be open to a move to England if given the chance and proving that he has an eye for goal for current club Athletic Bilboa.

In his current season he has managed to net 4 times, placing him in joint third place in the top goal scorers in the Spanish Premiera Division

Would you say any of these can lead the front for united and replace the legendary Rooney?

Wayne Rooney Could Leave Manchester United For just £5million

October 20, 2010

rooney Wayne Rooney Could Leave Manchester United For just £5millionRooney could leave the club in even more shock after revealing that he wants to leave the club in order to kick start his career after a number of tough weeks.

The additional shock that the club could suffer comes after the revelation that the club could fail to even make cash on the players exit after a transfer regulation set out by FIFA could see the player leave the club for as little as £5million.

The regulation would see Rooney being offered the chance to buy out his final year of his contract in order to free himself from the legal ties with the club, making him potentially a free agent, something that will alert a large number of clubs both within the UK as well as the rest of Europe.

The ruling which is named the ‘Webster Ruling’ is named after Andy Webster who used to play for Scottish club Hearts and he created a deal with the club to be able to buy out his final year with the club, something which FIFA liked the sound of and placed into action themselves.

Found within the FIFA rules article 17, the ruling means that the chances that Rooney could leave the club in January have increased as the club look to protect themselves from this happening and them getting very little compensation for their loss of their key striker.

Although the rule is in place, not all players qualify for the Webster ruling but after Spanish based law firm Ruiz Huerta y Crespo checked the eligibility of Rooney for the clause, they found that he did qualify, which will be great news for the player and those interested in him.

Speculation has been huge surrounding the possible clubs who will seek to offer Rooney a new start in his career and with the likes of free spending Manchester City, Barca and Real Madrid all registering their interest, you have to think that the battle of the players signature is going to come down to the money in the end.

Do you think he will go and who to?
