United fan stabbed in Rome

Police are investigating the reported stabbing of a Manchester United fan ahead of the Champions League final.

The fan was attacked near his hotel in Rome by up to four suspects in the early hours of this morning and suffered stab wounds to the left leg, according to Sky Sports News.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police in Rome said: “We have no details but are making full inquiries.

Sir Alex Ferguson has challenged Manchester United to join the pantheon of all-time great teams by lifting the Champions League title in Rome tonight.

Victory over Barcelona would allow United to become the first side to win back-to-back European Cups since it was rebranded in 1992.
