Villa 4 Man City 2

August 17, 2008 | Filed Under: UK Box, UK Box Update

Following a goalless first half, Villa finally opened the scoring just after the break when John Carew opened his account for the season with a fine header from Gareth Barry’s cross.

City stunned the home fans when they levelled matters on 64 minutes when Elano slotted home from the penalty spot after Michael Johnson had been brought down but Villa were soon back in front.

Agbonlahor got his first goal on 70 minutes when Ashley Young whipped in a corner that Cutis Davies flicked on for the young striker to volley home.

Then, just three minutes later, the score was 3-1, as Barry provided an excellant cross, leaving Agbonlahor the easiest of headers from close range.

On 76 minutes the hat-trick was complete when Agbonlahor latched on to a throughball from Barry before slotting the ball home.

City scored a consolation goal with only minutes remaining when Vedran Corluka netted after Johnson’s effort had been deflected
