James Morrison met a cross from Borja Valero with a fantastic glancing header past Robert Green to give West Brom the lead after just five minutes but Mark Noble pounced on a loose ball in the box after Scott Carson had parried a Lucas Neill header to level the scores on 28 minutes.

Just six minutes later Lucas Neill put West Ham ahead when a deep corner was headed back across the box by Scott Parker and Neill headed home from close range.
The lead lasted all of two minutes as Leon Barnett was brought down by Green after he had parried a long range effort, referee Lee Probert awarded the penalty and Roman Bednar made no mistake to once again level the scores.

After the restart the only chance of note came after fifty-one minutes when Bednar ran through but his effort to lift the ball over the on-rushing keeper was well saved.

As the game looked set for a draw Chris Brunt became the hero having been put through by Paul Robinson. The midfielder stumbled but managed to drag the ball into the corner off balance to give West Brom all three points.

Neither side deserved to lose but West Brom come out of the bottom three with the win.
